Well, that happened a lot faster than I expected.
First, let me say how excited I am to be working with LI. Not to detract from any of my other publishers, but I consider Loose Id to be one of the top-tier publishers in the erotic romance marketplace today.
Secondly, expect some grouchiness and grumbling. My new editor is going to be tough. There’s going to be some rewrites involved. She wants more heat. And, get this, blood. Not mine, although I’m sure there will be some figurative bleeding involved, all over my keyboard. She wants me to up the suspense factor, make my villain more villainous, and make my characters suffer a bit more angst. This is a prime example of how writers develop tunnel vision on their projects. We get so deeply rooted in our initial ideas, we lose our perspective.
It’s hard to step back from something you’re intimately involved with to look at it from a different angle. I think that’s also the mark of a great editor, that they have the foresight to read through a project, spot its weaknesses, and instinctively know how to fix it. Also, I really appreciate that she saw the bones of my story, the chemistry between the characters, and thought it was good enough to tackle and make better.
So, bring on the booze and the Band-Aids! In the end, it’ll pay off. This will be the best story I’ve written to date, and hopefully you’ll love it too.
Tentative publication date is sometime in July of this year. Stay tuned for more updates!
